FIBER LASER TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS
WHAT IS A FIBER LASER?
A desktop fiber laser is a solid-state laser in which the active medium is an optical fiber doped with rare-earth ions.
When an external energy source, such as a pump diode, is applied to the fiber, it excites the rare-earth ions, causing them to emit photons. These photons bounce back and forth within the fiber, creating a highly concentrated beam of light. This beam is then amplified as it passes through additional doped fibers or other optical components.
The wavelength (1064nm) and other unique properties of fiber laser machines make them ideal for a variety of industrial, medical, and scientific applications, including cutting, welding, and drilling materials, as well as for use in telecommunications and spectroscopy.
Sometimes you will hear the terms Q-Switched laser or MOPA (Master Oscillator Power Amplifier) used to describe desktop fiber lasers. Q-Switched lasers have fixed pulse widths and cost less than MOPA sources, which have a wider frequency range and variable pulse widths for more marking control and precision.

FAQs
Are fiber laser machines suitable for etching?
Absolutely! These laser systems are excellent for etching. They work exceptionally well on metals like copper and gold due to their high precision and power.
Desktop fiber lasers produce a minimal focal diameter. This gives them the ability to etch and engrave fine details with exceptional accuracy. But this doesn’t mean that they sacrifice speed. These lasers are also known for their fast processing speeds, blending speed, and precision.
What materials are desktop fiber laser marking machines for?
Fiber galvo lasers’ wavelength makes them great for engraving and marking a range of complex and brittle materials. But they work exceptionally well with metals, such as titanium, aluminum, and copper.
They can also be used to mark various products, like
- Medical tools
- Automotive accessories
- Jewelry
- Machine parts
Which is better: a fiber engraving laser or a CO2 laser?
Your ‘better’ system largely depends on the material you’re engraving because both machines offer extraordinary power, speed, and efficiency. Desktop fiber lasers excel at engraving and marking metals due to their high precision and efficiency. CO2 lasers are better for engraving wood, leather, anodized material (tumblers), plastic, and other materials.
